Plain Text Input
Plain text input remains available for formatter legacy workflows. It is not required for DOCX hyperlinking.
When Plain Text Helps#
Plain text is useful for simple formatter-era drafts, but it has limited structure. It cannot carry Word captions, equations, comments, styles, or existing document relationships the way DOCX can.
| Plain text is acceptable for | Plain text is weak for |
|---|---|
| Early drafts that need quick formatting. | Reviewing real Word cross-references. |
| Simple sections and paragraphs. | Figure, table, equation, or appendix target detection. |
| Content cleanup before export. | Production citation-link review. |
Recommended Flow#
- Use plain text only when the manuscript structure is intentionally minimal.
- Export to DOCX before any production review step.
- Use Hyperlinker on the final DOCX when citations, references, DOI text, figures, tables, equations, or sections need links.
For citation and cross-reference linking, use DOCX Hyperlinker. For formatting from source text, use the formatter-era export pages under Export Formats.
