KERNIT Documentation
Markdown Input
Markdown input remains available for formatter legacy workflows. For existing Word manuscripts, start with the Hyperlinker instead.
When Markdown Helps#
Use Markdown when your manuscript starts as structured text and you want KERNIT to create a formatted output file. Markdown is not required for the DOCX Hyperlinker; Hyperlinker works directly on Word files.
| Use Markdown when | Use DOCX upload when |
|---|---|
| You are drafting from plain structured text. | The manuscript already exists as a Word file. |
| You want KERNIT formatter output first. | You need citation and cross-reference links in the current DOCX. |
| The team controls the source text. | The team receives manuscripts from many authors. |
Recommended Flow#
- Convert Markdown to the required export format.
- Inspect headings, captions, equations, references, and tables in the exported file.
- If the final deliverable is DOCX, run Hyperlinker scan on that DOCX.
- Review and apply links only after the layout is stable.
For citation and cross-reference linking, use DOCX Hyperlinker. For formatting from source text, use the formatter-era export pages under Export Formats.
