KERNIT Documentation

DOI Resolution

DOI resolution adds external bibliographic evidence to the review flow. KERNIT can resolve references, validate DOI candidates, and hold risky identity changes for review before applying links.

Resolver Inputs#

KERNIT extracts bibliography text from the DOCX, normalizes reference candidates, and sends enough evidence for DOI lookup when the resolver is enabled. The resolver report can include DOI, title, author, year, confidence, and correction/retraction metadata where available.

Resolver Outputs#

FieldUse
doiCreates canonical DOI links when accepted.
titleHelps verify whether the resolved work matches the reference.
confidenceControls whether a row is ready, held, or needs manual review.
citationImpactExplains how a resolver update may affect in-text citations.
transactionPlanDescribes whether KERNIT can apply link-only or synchronized updates.
Resolver evidence is useful, but the review surface is still the source of truth. Do not blindly apply identity-changing resolver rows in production workflows.
