KERNIT Documentation
DOCX Cross-Reference Hyperlinker
The Hyperlinker is KERNIT's lead product: it turns static Word manuscript references into editable hyperlinks while preserving a reviewer-controlled path for uncertain or risky matches.
What It Links#
| Reference type | Output |
|---|---|
| Citations | Internal links from in-text citations to bibliography entries. |
| Figures and tables | Internal links from mentions such as Fig. 2 or Table 1 to captions. |
| Equations and sections | Internal links from equation and section mentions to numbered targets. |
| Appendices and algorithms | Internal links when labels and targets are detectable. |
| DOIs and URLs | External links to DOI URLs or safe source URLs. |
| Resolved bibliography entries | DOI/title metadata from resolver evidence, held for review when identity changes are risky. |
Product Principles#
- Reviewability over blind automation. The review drawer exists so wrong links can be corrected before apply.
- Editable output. KERNIT writes normal Word hyperlinks into a DOCX, not a locked viewer.
- Same flow for app and API. The browser and API share the scan, resolve, and apply model.
FAQ
- Can KERNIT link citations and figures in the same run?
- Yes. Settings control citation links, figure links, table links, equations, sections, appendices, DOI handling, and resolver behavior in the same DOCX processing run.
- Does it replace Word cross-reference fields?
- KERNIT writes hyperlinks. It does not require authors to rebuild a manuscript around Word field codes.
- Can I use it without DOI resolution?
- Yes. DOI and Crossref resolution are optional settings. Internal citation and cross-reference linking can run without external DOI enrichment.
